Fiji’s darkest hour – the start of thug rule

December 6, 2013

Yesterday, seven years ago, marked the start of Fiji’s darkest hour and the beginning of Fiji’s era under thug rule.   On this day, Fiji was plunged into its fourth coup in 20 years, after Bainimarama announced that he had taken control of the country from the elected government. Effectively holding Fiji hostage.

The coup followed tension between Bainimarama and the Prime Minister Qarase over a bill to grant pardons to those involved in the 2000 coup.  Bainimarama was a key player in the 2000 coup and he didnt want anyone released from prison who could reveal his role in the coup.

During the 2000 coup, in which nationalists stormed parliament and held ministers and MPs hostage for 56 days, Bainamarama achieved hero status for ending the standoff without bloodshed.  BUT this was all bullshit, because Bainimarama was the culprit who had ordered the elite Fiji soldiers, the CRW, into parliament to overthrow government and take them hostage.  Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, the current illegal President, was also involved with Bainimarama.

However, the 2000 coup didnt go as planned.  The President of Fiji, Ratu Sir KKT Mara,  did not support the coup and the army had stood its ground against the coup.  So Bainimarama carried out a mutiny by overthrowing the President, his Commander in Chief and took executive control over Fiji.  Bainimarama reluctantly handed back power to a civilian government.

In 2006 Bainimarama was to be arrested by the Police on charges of sedition, treason, murder and disobeying a lawful order.  So he carried out another coup in December 2006 to save himself from being arrested and from being sent to prison.

Since then Bainimarama has broken every promise he made to the people of Fiji. He uses military thugs to keep the populace in-line via fear, intimidation and torture.  Meanwhile, Bainimarama has become the most corrupt person in Fiji history, and together with his puppet master, Khaiyum, they deliberately lie to the people of Fiji and continue to “milk” as much as they can from the people of Fiji and in the name of Fiji.

Bainimarama is guilty of his crimes, and he knows it, so giving up power is not an option for him.  It will mean he is arrested and sent to prison. Therefore, Bainimarama and Khaiyum are doing anything and everything in an attempt to find a way to remain in power and out of prison, while also stealing as much money as they can.  Therefore it is highly unlikely that the 2014 elections will be held.  If elections are held then it will most likely be rigged in Bainimarama and Khaiyum’s favour.  Either way, thug rule is most likely to continue in Fiji.  At least until the people say enough is enough and rise up and put an end to Bainimarama and his thug rule!
