Fiji’s Defence minister Quits!! The wall is crumbling around Bainimarama

November 18, 2010

Fiji’s Minister of Defence, National Security and Immigration, Epeli Ganilau, has resigned but the reason for him quitting won’t be known until Frank Bainimarama returns to the country.

Ganilau’s sudden departure was announced by the Ministry of
Information a short time ago with Sharon Smith-Johns saying only Bainimarama could reveal why Ganilau stepped down.

Adding to the mystery is the fact that Ganilau (pictured above right) quit while the illegally appointed leader was out of the country, China according to reports.
Ganilau resigned last night and had just been asked to accept the resignation of Pio Tikoduadua, the permanent secretary to Bainimarama.

Tikoduadua is expected to finish at the end of the month but Ganilau’s successor has already been named.

He is the Minister for Primary Industries, Joketani Cokanasiga (left), who has been elevated to acting Minister of Defence, Immigration and National Security. Plus Acting Prime Minister!

Bainimarama is apparently away on a trade mission until early next week and there have been no reports of him returning earlier.

Epeli still have to face the full brunch of law, because his intial involved in military coup of 2006, so now they have to face the consquences despite of his resignation from Bainimarama regime. The law still stands in favour of 1997 constitution.
