Why Frank’s new 2014 Constitution will never work

September 30, 2009

Frank’s inconsistency in his UN remarks continue to thunder along the corridors of power. He asks why Australia and New Zealand have ganged up on him to persuade the UN not to include Fiji in any new UN Peacekeeping Missions, then on the same breath claims his being in power will eradicate the coup culture. Now, how is that possible Frank?

I remember Akuila Yabaki and the NCCBF’s recommendation on ways to prevent coups from happenign again in the future was for the Military to swear aligence to the President! Acting Army Commander Teleni days before the 2006 coup, went on air and publicly announced the Military will not stage a coup! What good is that going to do Yabaki? The eradication of the coup culture in Fiji has to do with the transformation from within the people to want to uphold the rule of law and not compromise with illegality and lawlessness! It has to start with common folk all the way to the leaders.

It is building a strong civic, traditional, social and religious society to ensure a strong, law-abiding strong Fiji. Bringing people to justice and not turning the blind eye are all vital building blocks towards nation building. It is when you have people honouring the rule of law, that a Constitution takes root in a country.

That is why Frank’s new Constitution will never eradicate the coup culture, but will only perpetuate it because the Constitution is a dead document. It is humans who breath it life if they choose to abide and follow it, but if they refuse and act contrary to it, then it remains a dead document.

All this fancy talk of eradicating elitism, corruption, nepotism, etc are simply nonsense because they don’t see its irony that the very issues they claim to want to remove, they themselves do.

What we need in Fiji today is the provention of the coup culture. The only way we can permanently eradicate the coup culture in Fiji is transformation from within, acceptance of the rule of law and bring all perpetrators of the coup to justice. If this is not done and think by relying on a dead document is the answer, then Fiji is condemned to an endless coup culture cycle.

  • Tui Savu.
  • President.

I thought a Constitution was a document and agreement upon which the Citizens of a given Country, agreed to live by !
It seems in Fiji, that the people agree, then change the agreement and with that approach, it’s a never ending cycle of broken agreements !
I think it’s time for Pacific Islanders to grow up, not only in regards to Politics.

Well Frank did indeed have some diplomatic contact whilst in NY. He met with PNG grand chief Micheal Somare,- well the old fool never learn talking to the pariah. And what did they discuss, playing golf in Fiji during Fiji Day. How very insignificant and a waste of time and money like everything else Frank does. Sweet FA for Fiji.
