Aiyaz is Liar and an opportunitist

May 12, 2009

From  blogger Ropate

I just read on RFN the transcrip of Aiyaz’s interview with ABC’s Pacific Beat reporter, Helen Coutt where he raves on about Australia and New Zealand. Among other things, he blames the electoral system (obviously the race-based 1997 Constitution) as causing the previous political problems and coups.

He’s got it wrong. Let me repeat myself: Rabuka’s two coups in 1987 had nothing to do with race. The first coup was to return Ratu Mara to power. It was done with the instigation of Alliance Politicians like Filipe Bole and the collusion of other leaders. Rember Rabuka’s first words to the then President Ratu Sir Penaia Ganilau were, “Sir, Ive done it.” Rabuka’s second coup was to protect his own skin.

The Speight Court, Fiji’s third, came after the insensitive Mahendra Chaudhry refuse to listen to the proests from Fijians concerned about the establishment of the Land Use Commission. Nothing about Indians, though I did recall in the petition presented to the President by the marchers they also singled out the arogance of the father and son Chaudhry team as being an issue that concerned them.

I have contended that any other Indo Fijian as Prime Minister would have been more responsive to the marches and there would not have been a coup. Speight and his group supported by elements of the Military took advantage of an opportunity to take over Parliament. In the original plan, the late Draunidalo was supposed to take over from Speight but he chickened out at the last minute.
The third coup by Bainimarama was done in the name of a “clean up” against corruption, but so far no evidence of a wide spread and systematic corrupton has been revealed by him despite being in power for nearly 3years now. The fourth coup, by Iloilo was like Rabuka’s second coup, to protect Frank’s skin and his ambitions.

Again, nothing about race. So race had nothing to do with it. But tell you what: in all of them the Military was involved. So the Samoan PM is right in pointing to the military as being the main cause of political instability in Fiji in the past 30 years.

Fiji is a state without the judiciary thanks to Aiyaz! It is a state held hostage under Bainimarama and Aiyaz. Both of them will reach Naboro soon.
