High Court judge Refuse to serve under Aiyaaz

May 7, 2009

One of the Australian judges hired by Fiji’s Chief Justice has left Suva, vowing never to return until the constitution is re-instated. Dr Thomas Hickey worked as a High Court judge for 13 months prior to the Good Friday decision by the military regime to sack the constitution and the judiciary. The interim government has since reopened the magistrates courts, but has not been able to employ the 10 High Court judges the president’s judicial decree stipulates are needed to run the superior courts.

Presenter: Geraldine Coutts
Speaker: Dr Thomas Hickey, former Fiji High Court judge
