Fiji Govt makes effort towards free and fair elections – another facade says SWM!

March 18, 2009
Yadra bloggers, well imagine this electronic voter system (EVC)! Manuel ballots in Fiji ends up being discarded and now this EVC rubbish. SWM believes this is just another facade the illegal junta is putting up to make them look as if they are being genuine in trying to work towards holding General Elections, when in reality they are only putting on a show. What’s happened to Heffernan, who was brought in from overseas to be SOE? She ends up being a dud, but this was their intention all the time to further delay the process and AusAid too must take some responsibility for this delay in funding this position, when it ought to know Felicity Heffernan was not qualified for the job. SWM urges Oz & NZ to ensure their taxpayers are utilised properly, such as in Felicity’s case!

In what is seen as an effort by the Interim Government to move the country to democratic elections, two international experts are currently in the country to oversee the need for improved voter registration systems.

They will also be holding a workshop on the use of the Electronic Voter Registration (EVR) system.

The journey of the EVR into Fiji kicked off with a scoping mission from the Elections Office to Samoa, followed by the formation of an all government EVR Working Group to assess the system for Fiji.

The consultants MICHAEL YARD and Robert Jordan are IT, EVR and Demographic experts, with the consultancy brokered independently between the Electoral Reform International Services (ERIS) an NGO, together with the support of the Fiji High Commission in London.

The elections office says ERIS’s offer to assist Fiji is a genuine attempt, unlike previous offers of donor assistance after the EU withdrew promised support in the wake of the Pacific Islands Forum Niue in 2008.

It adds both the PIF in Niue and PNG early this year offers of assistance, sadly are linked intrinsically to political election dates rather then the Electoral Management body’s operations needs.

The Elections Office says they welcome any donor funding to support and assist Fiji’s journey towards free and fair elections.

It’s a sad day when Fijians measure their wealth ” only ” by the amount of money they earn :-

Hey Sambo , didn’t we pass that tree before , yes , but not from the same angle .
Have faith my friend , the Commander knows what he is doing , he is taking us forward !
    Forward to what ?
Don’t ask unnecessary questions my friend , only he knows what we are moving forward to !
It is not for us to know , for too much knowledge will fry the mind of the village man , we must leave the important things to the one who knows everything .

    Electronic voting in Fiji?
    More like ‘Electronic Vote Rigging’.
How easy does Chodo want his vote rigging to be? Too easy!
First he’s bringing people from India by the plane load. Then he’s changing the voting rules with the Fake Charter. Now he’s electronically going to rig the vote. It’s Bush v Gore and the hanging chad all over again
    God bless Fiji

Isa isn’t this country just in “Consultant Maximus Over-drivus” mode.

Of course they’d be frickin’ “genuinely” interested! It means they get paid & can arrest the economic downturn in their bank accounts aye?

I doubt a down-payment has been paid to secure the service thus the lament of being “open to donor funding” by the expert U-tubers @ Elections Office.

Yeah – these guys are infatuated with “out-of-box” thinking and new-fangled ideas.

Good if you can do them, but not worth much when you can’t even do the basics right!

    First things first, amateurs!

    Bula JdA!

Truzup. How can they expect to hold an election with electronic gadgetry when they can’t even run one with ink and paper?

But, to my way of thinking, they don’t actually want to RUN the election.

They want to RIG the election.

    God bless Fiji
